Optimising Your Personal Transformation Practice
Overview
If you want to super charge your Personal Transformation Practice you are going to need to leverage your relationships with your mind, body and others to the max.
For most individuals the most challenging hurdles are going to be dealing with your mind and the current habits which keep you stuck.
Interestingly enough, while physical activity is great for quickly changing our physiology and giving us energy most of your efforts will be in taking this energy and applying it to enhance the state of your mind. This means spending more time and energy on your personal psychology than exercising. This is not to say the exercise is bad, it's great, but you will want to take that energy and apply it to the hard stuff, which generally speaking comes form fixed mindsets. So while you may believe that the most important thing to do in order to lose weight and/or stop smoking might be diet and/or exercise you unlikely to succeed if you do not address the most powerful organ in your body, your mind.
In fact Anthony Robbins states that you will spend about 80% of your work on your mind and roughly 20% on your body when you get started. It requires both in order to move at your optimal speed.
If your good with that lets rock on... If not, a slower path may work better for you. Eventually you will have to deal with mind more directly but this may give some a certain comfort and will assist in keeping speeds of change at more comfortable levels.
Ok, lets dive right in now!
Here is a rough outline
Defining clear goals
You don't need to know exactly what the final outcome will be but you want to set some clear goals that can be used to measure success.
This is a lot more difficult then it might seem at first glance. You will want to clearly define what you want to achieve through your personal transformation. Write down your goals and this is important, the reasons behind them. This will help you remain motivated and focused throughout the process. Think about your values, the things you are passionate about and what would make you happy
Take It Slow
If you have not already consciously embarked on a transformative journey you want to take it very slow but as consistent as possible at the beginning. This will do a few thing for you to help ensure that you are highly successful.
Establishing your anchor
Your new anchor is going to be a new habit that you are going to attach to a current habit that you have.
- Commit to taking 5 minutes every single day to work on yourself.
- Keep you totally doable commitment
We don't want to do the following as described as this can lead to brain thinking it is done...
Visualize the Journey
Studies conducted at Harvard University showed that people who simply imagined practicing the piano every day physically strengthened the muscles in their fingers. Other studies also found that your brain does not distinguish between imagination and reality.
Create a Plan
Break down your goals into smaller, manageable steps. This gradual approach makes it easier to maintain momentum and track progress.
Be willing to be uncomfortable
rewrite:
Change is uncomfortable. Realize that fact, accept it, and embrace it.
People tend to cling to stability and comfort, but your personal transformation requires you to step into new environments, meet new people, and do things that you’re not used to. And that is scary.
Physiologically, fear and excitement are nearly identical. Your heart races, you sweat, you shake, you cry. You naturally want to quit or run away.
When you start to feel fear, re-frame it and tell yourself that you’re just excited. Embrace the feeling, and work through it. Don’t let it stop you.
Celebrate and Savour your Progress
Rewrite:
When you change, the people around you will react. Some will support you, and some will work actively to resist you.
Build up your inner strength and realize that you don’t need anyone’s approval. If they give it to you, that’s a gift. But if they don’t, you know what you’re doing and why, and you only need yourself as a cheerleader.
Most of the greatest thinkers and doers in history were ridiculed and chastised when they created change. When you better yourself, you should expect the same. That’s just proof that you’re on the right path.
